Collection of unique amplifiers made by friends and collaborators. Some are from well-known brands, others are one off DIY builds. All are custom-made or modded and have a unique story.

• Kansas City 50 (Benson Amps)

  Christopher Benson built me a single rig that could demo both guitar and bass pedals. It has simple controls and a massive, clean-sounding head paired with a 15” cab.

• Cliff’s Cat (Modded Bad Cat Hot Cat 15)

  This is an original, first-generation Hot-Cat 15 modded by my late friend and JHS lead engineer, Cliff Smith. Cliff passed away in 2022, and this amp is part of the legacy he left our team and community.

• JHS Roaster (Satellite Amplifiers)

  We made this coffee roaster/amp combo with Kansas City’s Oddly Correct as an April Fool’s joke in 2017. Adam Grimm from Satellite Amplifiers turned this into a true rock machine that became one of my top favorites. 

• JHS 50 (Morgan Amps)

  Early in our careers, I asked Joe Morgan to build me a 50-watt Bassman style amp with his signature sparkle and punch. It’s loud, raw, and effortlessly inspiring.

• Pennington Squeaker (DIY Supro-style)

  My friend John Pennington gutted a cheap Epiphone Valve Jr. can and dropped in a low-wattage Supro style circuit. It rips with glorious distortion and lives up to its oddball name.

  Another master build from Adam at Satellite, this amp instantly nails the Pearl Jam Vitalogy sound. Plug in a Les Paul, and your grunge loving soul will be stirred

• Milkman Combo (Original NAMM Amp)

  Tim Marcus of Milkman Sound built this amp for our NAMM booth. When done right, Princeton-style platforms can hit with the power of a Bassman. This amp is versatile, sweet, and foundational to my collection.

  Dave Friedman offered to mod one of my MIGs after I talked with him about my Sovtek obsession on his podcast. It came back the rowdiest, most versatile MIG 50 on earth.

  This was my introduction to clean Dumble-style amps. It’s unrelenting, powerful, and terrifyingly clear. It weighs a ton, and I’m not sure I’m worthy of unknowing it.

  Eli Lester of Two Rock Amplifiers modded this Traditional Clean with some top secret tweaks. Let’s just say it’s not traditional anymore.
